Ebru Taşdemir

The speaker, moderator, and author Ebru Taşdemir is a regular columnist for the German daily newspaper taz (“Der Rote Faden”) and the radio broadcaster Deutschlandfunk Kultur (“Politisches Feuilleton”). She is politically active. As an editor, she supports the taz’s German-Turkish platform “taz.gazete,” and she participates in “Neue deutsche Medienmacher:innen” (“New German Media Specialists”), an association of journalists with international roots.
She started working already during her studies and continued to do so afterwards as an interpreter, translator, and freelance radio journalist. In 2014 her book “Ein türkischer Sommer in Berlin” (“A Turkish Summer in Berlin”) was published. She and the other founding members were awarded the special prize for journalists in 2014 for “Hate Poetry,” an anti-racist reading of hate mails in a show format. Born in 1973 in Berlin, her parents left Turkey to come to Berlin as so-called “guest workers.” She studied journalism and Turkish studies at the Freie Universität Berlin.
